CLEAR LAKE WALLEYE CLASSIC RULES – May 2008

  1. Contestants must enter as two man teams and must be members of the Clear Lake Fishing Club (membership is included in your entry fee).  Any person 17 years of age or younger must be teamed with a parent or legal guardian.  No person under age 10 may compete.
  2. A mandatory rules meeting will be held May 16th, 2008 at the Ventura Community Center, Ventura, IA.  At least one team member must attend.  The fishing club will provide a meal free of cost to tournament fishermen only.  Advance tickets for guests can be purchased at $5.00 per ticket.  Limited tickets will be available at the door.  All teams must check in by 6:30 p.m.  The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m.
  3. Entrants will conduct themselves in a sportsman-like manner.  There is a 50 ft. restricted area around other tournament boats.  Crowding or contact with other boats, moving in on other contestants or anchoring where another boat is obviously fishing will be treated severely by the Tournament Director.  This could cause a team to be disqualified for the day.  Planer boards must be kept within 50 feet of the boat foot also. 
  4. No alcohol or illicit drugs may be consumed during the tournament hours. Alcoholic beverages and containers should not be visible prior to weigh-in of the fish or on stage at any time during the tournament.
  5. Boats:  14 ft. minimum and 22 ft. maximum. Must have a freshwater recirculating livewell.  All outboard or inboard motors used in the tournament must not exceed boat manufacturer’s H.P. specifications.
  6. The number of teams will determine flighting – 15 minutes between flights.  First half of the entries go out first on day one, second half go first on day two.  Tournament hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday for 1st flight and 7:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for 2nd flight.  Sunday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for 1st flight and 7:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for 2nd flight.  Times are subject to change based on conditions.
  7. All state of Iowa fishing laws will be observed unless the Tournament Director imposes more stringent rules.  Entrants must possess a valid Iowa Fishing License and have it available to show a DNR officer, if asked for.  
  8. All fish must be kept in an aerated freshwater livewell and there is a 2/10 lb. penalty for each dead fish.  The use of fish stringers, baskets and boat bags is strictly prohibited.  If any fish are questionable due to poor handling by a team, they will not be counted.  Any fish showing signs of being on a stringer or injected with water or other substances to add weight, will result in a disqualification.  No fish stretchers allowed! 
  9. All contestants must wear a lifejacket at all times when boat is above trolling speed.  The boat must be equipped with a throwable flotation device, a fire extinguisher and comply with all state of Iowa Boating Regulations. 
  10. All boats will be inspected prior to tournament start.  Contestants will start from the seawall at City Park.  All contestants must turn their tournament numbers in each day, so that each boat may be accounted for. Teams not checking in after a days fishing will be disqualified from the tournament and also next year’s event.
  11. Once the tournament has started, contestants can fish only during tournament hours.
  12. Entrants who leave earlier than their assigned time or return later than their assigned time will be disqualified.
  13. In the event of bad weather, entrants shall use their own judgment to get off the lake and into a safer environment. 
  14. Pre-fishing will be allowed through May 16th, 2008, until 4:00 p.m.
  15. Minimum length of walleyes is 14 inches and only one fish can be over 22 inches per person.  Daily limit is 6 fish per team of which 5 can be weighed toward your team total.  Any violation of this rule will disqualify a team for the day’s weight.
  16. No binoculars will be allowed.  Cell phones are for EMERGENCIES only.  They are not for talking to your wife, your girlfriend about your wife or any other fisherman.  EMERGENCIES are EMERGENCIES ONLY!!!
  17. A contestant may not leave their boat during tournament hours except to use restrooms at the official weigh-in dock next to City Beach or to weigh in large fish.  This rule may be waived in the event of severe weather.
  18. Fishable waters-  Clear Lake proper.  No fishing is allowed in the Harborage or Venetian Village.  

Prizes - All prizes will be awarded by total team weight with the exception of the Big Fish Awards, which are awarded individually.  In the case of a tie for any place, the prize will be split 50/50 on the two places that tie.  Total weight on the 2nd day will determine the tiebreaker for the trophy.
